01The progression

Your design, from idea to keyboard.

You design the look and the layout; keyfab designs the rest.

Stage 1 · Experiment

Try it every way

Try a layout, change your mind, try another. Designing in keyfab costs nothing.

VARIANTS · v1–v3
v1 · 60% · triedv2 · 40% ortho · triedv3 · 65% · keptTRY · CHANGE · TRY AGAIN3 layouts tried · nothing to pay until you buy files
Stage 2 · Key layout

Every key, dimensioned

Place keys on a real grid. Pitch, widths and positions are true millimetres, so the design you make is the board you get.

PLAN · 1u = 19.05 mm
285.7595.251u = 19.0561 keys · pitch 19.05 × 19.05
Stage 3 · Circuit

The matrix, solved for you

keyfab wires every switch into a row-and-column matrix with a diode per key, and assigns the microcontroller pins.

Stage 4 · PCB

Routed and ready to order

The circuit becomes a two-layer board: footprints placed under every key, traces routed, outline cut. Gerbers and drill files follow.

LAYOUT · F.Cu / B.Cu

Stage 5 · Keycaps

Profiles and legends, specified

Choose a sculpt for every row and set legends inside each cap's legend frame. Your keycap designs record it all.

Stage 6 · Assembled

Your keyboard, made

Boards from the fab, caps from the printer, firmware on the controller. Solder the switches, seat the caps, plug it in.

02Starter designs

Begin from a working design.

Every starter design is a complete, buildable keyboard. Start from one, then make it yours.

03File schedule

What you buy: files, not boxes.

keyfab ships no physical goods. Your files for making your keyboard are yours to download once you've paid, and you take them to the manufacturers you choose. We'll show you how.
